Hi-Ho the dairy-o the cheese stands alone
November 28, 2006So I have this friend named Sarah, I may have mentioned her once or twice. She’s pretty cool. Last night while sipping chai* and eating toasted bagels, the following conversations were had…
S: On Myspace?
M: They’re each other’s # 1 friends Sarah, and you know that means something
I hit a new low last night, a new myspace low, which is saying something. Yet my dear friend still loves me.
M:There is a bum by my face
S: Get used to it.
Sarah always tells me how it is. She keeps it real.
This really has nothing to do with life lessons learned from Sarah, or why she is so awesome, but it needs to be said. I sent the following text message to my friend Jeff while we were talking
So… A man looking at gay porn just offered me candy…
Stay tuned to http://www.twolooseteeth.com/ for a picture of him. (and ugly, vile and disgusting pictures of me…)

November 26, 2006So Thanksgiving was fun. Small, tiny even, but fun. The holidays finally feel normal again so that’s pretty cool. We had my brother and his wife over, for a total of five people. The smallest Thanksgiving in Mallory history. I suppose it quality not quanitity that counts though because it was a great time. That and we watched A Christmas Story, and everyone knows that it is impossible not to have fun if that movie is involved. Another great thing about teeny tiny Thanksgiving? Soooo many left overs.
My holiday weekend overall has been fantastico. Friday night was girls night, we went on a covert mission, I got a speeding ticket, and we watched What a Girl Wants. All in all? It was pretty awesome. I also got to eat a club sandwich… and nothing makes me happier than a club sandwich.
Saturday was one of the funnest days I’ve had in a long time. Mikey and I went to Smith and Edwards just for the hell of it and it was AWESOME*. If you’ve never been there tell me, and I’ll take you. We (and by we I mean Mikey) bought quite a bit of swag. we got fish flash lights (conveniently attached to a key chain), Hydration packs, tape measures, a fancy coat, and some Christmas gifts that cannot be listed for obvious reasons.
We finished up at Smith and Edwards faster than we anticipated so we decided to explore the wild world of Willard, which mostly consisted of me seeing a random road and saying “lets see where that leads.” Well my friends it lead to the coolest mud puddles ever. Actually it was a street full o’ farms but eventually turned into some bumpy muddy road. Mikey and I not having a clue on what to do, just drove through the mud for about 20 minutes. It was really fun though, and now I can say that I’ve gone “mudding” so that’s cool. I should add that to the list.. Which is still being worked out..
I completed my day of fun by going to dinner and a movie with some new friends. I had a taco salad. It was delicious. After dinner we went to see The Departed. It was really good, pretty violent, but still good nonetheless. I like movies with twisted endings. (Sorry if I spoiled anything.. but I’m pretty sure that most of the people who read this have already seen it…) Anyways the night was fun, and I learned that you can text message google and that? is insane.
Yep all in all, it was a pretty good day.

* I only said “awesome” twice in this particular post
You Quench my Heart and You Quench my Mind
November 22, 2006When I was in high school I was friends with some kids from the tiny town of Scott City Kansas. The friendships consisted mostly of dicking around online, making insane videos and mailing them to each other, and talking about music. I have come to conclude without knowing those four boys (I couldn’t find a link for the fourth) I wouldn’t love music the way I do today. Anyways I’ve been thinking a lot about my “favorites” when it comes to music and I think I’ve narrowed it down, not surprisingly most of my faves come from that period of life. I know I’ve left a lot of really great stuff off these lists, but like I said these are my favorites, so it might seem a little narrow. So without further ado, in no particular order, here are some top tens/twenties which are still to this day heavily influenced by the Kansas kids-

They said go to school and be a college kid
November 13, 2006So, I sort of hate freshman. And I don’t mean the kind of hate that I frivolously throw around like I frequently do. (IE “I hate you a little bit”, “I hate you the size of a bowling ball” etc) I honestly cannot stand them. I detest them. One could say I even loathe them. Today while in my intro to art history class I sat alone, deserted by one of my favorite classmates. With no one to talk to, I was forced to sit there and listen to the following conversation:
Freshman 1: What did you do this weekend?
Freshman 2: I went to THREE movies ohmygod I am SO lazy!
F1: What movies did you see?
F2: Stranger than fiction, Borat, and Babble. (I’m pretty sure she meant Babel)
F1: BABBLE? The one with Brad Pitt?
F2: Yeah it was really REALLY deep. I think he did it because of his adopted baby and stuff
F1: oh yeah? Isn’t it like Syriana? Like all important and newsy?
F2: yeah it was really confusing though, there were subtitles and stuff
F1: Ugh I HATE subtitles, I mean who goes to a movie to read?
F2: Yeah I know. Since there were so many different languages there was hardly any dialogue. Mostly dramatic music and stuff
F1: Sounds boring and stuff
F2: yeah it was. I hate movies that are self involved like that.
Welcome to higher education.

Superman is Dead
November 11, 2006So I haven’t been doing a very good job at blogging this week and now I am over loaded with possible things to write about, so this post may be a little crazy, a little vague, but really you should come to expect it. Anyways, the campaign is over so my readership will probably drop down to 3 again.
Last night the girls and I went to see Ben Lee. It was so fun, and I’m really glad that I had the chance to see him again. Under the Influence of Giants and Rooney opened for Mister Lee. Under the Influence wasn’t too bad, they were catchy as hell, and fun to dance to. Lisa and I did a pretty good job of chiming in random “woots” “hoo’s” and “doots.” Yeaaah I guess you had to be there.. if you see me in person ask me about it and i will give you a demonstration. Maybe. If you’re lucky. Anyways after the Influence, Rooney came onto the stage. They were pretty awful. I guess they didn’t sound THAT bad, but they were really annoying me and I was afraid that I was going to have a rage blackout and beat some innocent Rooney fan to a bloody unrecognizable pulp. The lead singer was obnoxious and arrogant, he actually let his fans touch his hands, AND waved a huge Rooney flag around, just so we could witness how great he really is. Their set was mediocre with long pauses in between songs. The lead singer didn’t like it when the crowd grew silent during the excessive pauses. There was an overwhelming feeling of “DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?” coming from that band and it really bugged me (obviously). You were on The OC, Nobody cares, you still suck. After suffering through Rooney, Ben Lee FINALLY came on, dressed in a gold suit. It was pretty sweet. He really puts on a great show, and I would highly suggest seeing him if you get the chance. Tickets are usually pretty cheap since he’s so unknown.
So I’m thinking about starting up another list. I never did finish the summer list, and I think it would be fun to do. if you have any suggestions on things to do leave me a comment. Also brewing in my mind for future posts: Top ten maybe twenty songs, cds, concerts etc. I feel like I have to prove myself after that Backstreet Boys post. Okay I’d better get to work or something. But thanks for stopping by.
Let this flag burn to dust and a new a fair design be raised
November 10, 2006Well the election has come and gone, and as you may or may not have heard, we didn’t win. While it is disappointing that we didn’t defeat Orrin Hatch, (please note the crying eagle wallpaper) the night was still really fun. My main responsibility was to watch the table located at the front of our room and hand out Ashdown swag to supporters. I saw almost everyone that I’ve worked with these past few months, it was fun to catch up. I didn’t realize how many people I’ve actually met through volunteering. I spent the majority of the night with a couple volunteers who have restored my faith in the freshman community. Because lets face it, there is nothing more annoying that rowdy freshman… Maybe I’ve just lost my lust for college… ANYWAYS the two freshman are both pretty cool.
Pete’s election night speech was nothing short of inspiring. He said things like
If there is one message I want everyone to remember in this campaign, it is we are all the change we wish to make. The only important requirement is your will.
I am bruised, but I am not beaten.I am down, but I am not defeated. This election is over, BUT I AM NOT DONE.
You better believe that I’ll be there every step of the way. The energy in the room when he gave his final speech was amazing, I was so proud to be apart of it.

A new senator for a new century!
November 6, 2006Yeah that’s a song lyric so no smart ass remarks in the comments section
I decided since the election is TOMORROW I should probably get around to writing up an endorsement for Pete Ashdown you know, since I’ve been interning for about a month now… It’s not that I’ve been procrastinating, its just I don’t always feel comfortable talking about my personal beliefs. Why I’m comfortable telling you about my past obsession with boy bands, and about my friend’s bathroom habits but not politics is beyond me… Anyways here it goes-
As a student at The University of Utah, it is refreshing to see a candidate who is in touch with my generation. I first heard of Pete on a morning radio show that regularly listen to. After hearing that someone was willing to run against Orrin Hatch, I decided to check out http://www.peteashdown.org/, where I signed up to be an intern for his campaign. Usually I am not one to get involved with politics, telling people my political views has always terrified me for some reason, but from his website, Pete seemed to be a genuine candidate and a genuine person. At first I was skeptical, I assumed that his website embellished on his character, I was wrong. Pete is the real deal, he is a citizen just like me with concerns about our country. I am honored to be apart of his campaign and hope that you will take a minute to check out www.peteashdown.org and make an educated decision about who you vote for tomorrow.
So there you have it. My endorsement.
