So let’s run let’s run let’s run

June 23, 2007

I just finished running my first ever 5K and I’m sort of proud of myself. Granted it’s no marathon, I’m still quite pleased that I committed to something involving athletics and actually came through to accomplish it.

I just wanted to thank everyone who’s helped keep me motivated. Without further ado…

Thanks Becca for suggesting that we do it, I hope that we do it again!
Thanks Scott for keeping me motivated by asking me about my progress all the time. Also thanks for answering my endless questions.
Thanks Sarah, Lisa, Jake and Becca’s parents for showing up this morning you guys are all awesome!
Finally Thanks Mikey for training with me!

Here I stand, Sad and Free

April 30, 2007

I found this in my journal from a few weeks ago-

Things that make me happy:
Having a plan for the future
Calling Kevin “pervert”
Music, specifically live bluegrass
Crazy old men
Mikey’s George W. Bush impression
Becca’s laugh
Drunk-dancing Jake
Justin Timberlake music videos
Best Friends
Art
What the hell does rant mean
Jump balls
lists
Roller coasters
Springtime
Original NES games, and emulators on that note
Mortal Kombat, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country

Hmmm. Life can be so fickle sometimes.

I said the words I needed to

March 21, 2007

Sunday my family got together to celebrate my nephew’s birthday. It was pretty good times. It also gave me a chance to play with my newish camera that I still haven’t really toyed around with. Maybe next time I can get Mikey to look into the lens…

Unintended

February 26, 2007

On Feb. 19th my Aunt’s mother passed away, and Saturday was her funeral. For some reason I had a really hard time with it. Maybe I was just looking for an excuse to cry, or maybe it brought back really painful memories. This is the first funeral I’ve been to in since October, 2004. It is insane how much you forget, and even more insane is how it all comes back in an instant. Little things like cloth covered folding chairs at the graveside, hearing my Grandfather speak, and family prayers brought back so many memories. I couldn’t help but empathize.

Combine that with some personal drama, and that makes for one overwhelming weekend. While this past weekend was particularly rough, I’m really lucky to know what things will always make me feel better.

  • Talking to my Mom at 3:00 AM
  • “Dropping by” to certain friends’ house, even if it is at 1 in the morning and they’re not expecting me
  • Being able to look back and see how far I’ve come, it’s really empowering sometimes
  • New Shoes
  • Surprise visits from my family
  • Tagalong ice cream. Dude its frigging good.
  • New gadgets
  • Singing to the radio with Mikey
  • Watching stupid TV shows with Mikey
  • Eating Ice cream with Mikey
  • New Purses
  • Spending time with a new friend
  • Seeing siblings I don’t see nearly enough
  • Spending time with my extended family and realizing it’s importance
  • New CDs

Okay, I’ll end my sappy post now… And I’ll start being funny again soon. Thanks for bearing with me.

My name is Mud

February 24, 2007

As promised, here is the post about MUDFEST 2007!

Last week my very very good friend Scott asked me if Mikey and and I would like to go mudding up at 5-mile pass. Of course we said yes.

So, someday I might actually start writing posts again, but until then, please enjoy another conversation that took place between my little brother and myself.

Mallory: I think I’m getting sick
Mikey: Like a cold?
Mallory: No, I THINK I’M BECOMING A PERVERT
Mikey: Mostly I meant “are you nauseous? or is a cold?” not “ARE YOU BECOMING A PEDOPHILE?”

So as you may or may not know, I used to work at The UPS Store with my little brother Mikey. While I no longer work there, he does. Mikey is also currently taking a math course this semester. The following is a conversation that took place in my car last weekend sometime.

Mikey: My math class drives me insane
Mallory: Why?
Mikey: I just hate the story problems that we have to do.
Mallory: Why?
Mikey: So this one problem is like “Johnny had four dollars in his pocket, wants to send a letter to his friend. The first ounce is .37 and each additional ounce is .23 how heavy can his letter be?” Mallory: Okay…
Mikey: FIRST OF ALL the first ounce is THIRTY NINE CENTS! and each additional ounce is TWENTY FOUR CENTS. My book is out dated
Mallory: haha
Mikey: PLUS they didn’t even specify if he should ship it first class. How soon does he want it there? is it a book? can I ship it media mail? Because its a hell of a lot cheaper sending something media mail than first class. Where does his friend live? is it going international? Does he want tracking? exactly how big is this “letter”? Is it subject to oversize fees?
Mallory: Your math book needs to get its shit together
Mikey: yeah. I think the answer is no solution, not enough information provided

Celebrate we will, cause life is short but sweet for certain

January 3, 2007

So I don’t know what is up with me, but my emotions have been on a roller coaster ride lately. Pretty soon I’m going to start writing emo song songs or something, and that? could be scary.
Without going into too much detail, lets just say I’m lucky to have friends who will throw me black and purple parties, wear du-rags, hang out even if I haven’t seen them for months, and get upset if they think I’m mad at them.

I am so lucky.

Have a good’un.

Lets conspire to re-ignite all the souls that would die just to feel alive

November 26, 2006

So Thanksgiving was fun. Small, tiny even, but fun. The holidays finally feel normal again so that’s pretty cool. We had my brother and his wife over, for a total of five people. The smallest Thanksgiving in Mallory history. I suppose it quality not quanitity that counts though because it was a great time. That and we watched A Christmas Story, and everyone knows that it is impossible not to have fun if that movie is involved. Another great thing about teeny tiny Thanksgiving? Soooo many left overs.

My holiday weekend overall has been fantastico. Friday night was girls night, we went on a covert mission, I got a speeding ticket, and we watched What a Girl Wants. All in all? It was pretty awesome. I also got to eat a club sandwich… and nothing makes me happier than a club sandwich.

Saturday was one of the funnest days I’ve had in a long time. Mikey and I went to Smith and Edwards just for the hell of it and it was AWESOME*. If you’ve never been there tell me, and I’ll take you. We (and by we I mean Mikey) bought quite a bit of swag. we got fish flash lights (conveniently attached to a key chain), Hydration packs, tape measures, a fancy coat, and some Christmas gifts that cannot be listed for obvious reasons.

We finished up at Smith and Edwards faster than we anticipated so we decided to explore the wild world of Willard, which mostly consisted of me seeing a random road and saying “lets see where that leads.” Well my friends it lead to the coolest mud puddles ever. Actually it was a street full o’ farms but eventually turned into some bumpy muddy road. Mikey and I not having a clue on what to do, just drove through the mud for about 20 minutes. It was really fun though, and now I can say that I’ve gone “mudding” so that’s cool. I should add that to the list.. Which is still being worked out..

I completed my day of fun by going to dinner and a movie with some new friends. I had a taco salad. It was delicious. After dinner we went to see The Departed. It was really good, pretty violent, but still good nonetheless. I like movies with twisted endings. (Sorry if I spoiled anything.. but I’m pretty sure that most of the people who read this have already seen it…) Anyways the night was fun, and I learned that you can text message google and that? is insane.

Yep all in all, it was a pretty good day.

Have a good’un

* I only said “awesome” twice in this particular post

Where is My Mind?

September 8, 2006

It’s official, I am a bigoted hight-est. Just ask Sarah. I’m actually writing this post from my art history course, No I haven’t finally purchased a laptop, this message has been transcribed from my notebook.. ANYWAYS how was your Labor day weekend? Mine was nothing short of fantastic.

Friday night Marci bo Barci and I went to our place and then afterwards decided to go to the off Broadway theatre for some improv comedy. It was really fun; you should try if you’ve never been. The crowd there was really small, but I think that just added to how fun it was. The actors actually did a skit that took place at the ICEE Company, so that was pretty funny. After the club, we met up with Sarah for Chai at the Coffee Break. It’s a pretty cute coffee shop, and they have pretty good chai. We met some new friends, and Sarah may have met the love of her life, but we’re not sure yet. (yeah yeah you hate me the size of a grain of rice…)

Saturday was also an awesome day, I spent the entire day with people who I adore. Saturday morning I went to the farmers market with Jessie and her roommate, an it was really fun. I really love the farmers market, they always have the coolest stuff, and you can get full on free samples J. After the market, I went home to a family get together with my dad’s side of the family. It was really awesome. I don’t think I’ve sat down and really talked with them since my dad passed away, so seeing them definitely brought back some awesome memories. Its crazy how fast time flies. I think we are going to try and get together more often, and that excites me. Saturday night I went to dinner with Sarah and saw Talladega nights. Hee I love Will Ferrell. After the movie, we went back to my house and just watched some tv, all in all, Saturday was awesome.

THEN ON SUNDAY Mom, Mikey and I went to the Mountain Men Rendezvous at Fort Bridger. It was really fun. My dad used to always take us to the rendezvous when I little, so it was sort of a visit to the past again, but like Saturday, it was a welcome one. I forgot how cool that place is. It was fun seeing people dressed up like it was the early 1800s. I am so happy to be living now instead of 100-200 years ago.

I spent Monday at home and with the girls shopping, it was fun. I told you it was a fantastic weekend. Looks like this weekend should also be pretty awesome, I’m going to the state fair, and to Greek-fest. I’m excited. Things in my life are insane right now, but I love every second of it. This week I signed up to volunteer for the Pete Ashdown Campaign and I am really excited about it. I will be doing office work for them and they talked to me about being one of their photographers, which blows my mind. I think this will be an awesome experience and I can’t wait. Anyways, I have art history to read about (remember the 5 things I want to accomplish this semester? Yeah I’m all over it.)
Have a good’un.
