Let this flag burn to dust and a new a fair design be raised

November 10, 2006

Well the election has come and gone, and as you may or may not have heard, we didn’t win. While it is disappointing that we didn’t defeat Orrin Hatch, (please note the crying eagle wallpaper) the night was still really fun. My main responsibility was to watch the table located at the front of our room and hand out Ashdown swag to supporters. I saw almost everyone that I’ve worked with these past few months, it was fun to catch up. I didn’t realize how many people I’ve actually met through volunteering. I spent the majority of the night with a couple volunteers who have restored my faith in the freshman community. Because lets face it, there is nothing more annoying that rowdy freshman… Maybe I’ve just lost my lust for college… ANYWAYS the two freshman are both pretty cool.

Pete’s election night speech was nothing short of inspiring. He said things like

If there is one message I want everyone to remember in this campaign, it is we are all the change we wish to make. The only important requirement is your will.

and

I am bruised, but I am not beaten.I am down, but I am not defeated. This election is over, BUT I AM NOT DONE.

You better believe that I’ll be there every step of the way. The energy in the room when he gave his final speech was amazing, I was so proud to be apart of it.

A new senator for a new century!

November 6, 2006

Yeah that’s a song lyric so no smart ass remarks in the comments section :)

I decided since the election is TOMORROW I should probably get around to writing up an endorsement for Pete Ashdown you know, since I’ve been interning for about a month now… It’s not that I’ve been procrastinating, its just I don’t always feel comfortable talking about my personal beliefs. Why I’m comfortable telling you about my past obsession with boy bands, and about my friend’s bathroom habits but not politics is beyond me… Anyways here it goes-

As a student at The University of Utah, it is refreshing to see a candidate who is in touch with my generation. I first heard of Pete on a morning radio show that regularly listen to. After hearing that someone was willing to run against Orrin Hatch, I decided to check out http://www.peteashdown.org/, where I signed up to be an intern for his campaign. Usually I am not one to get involved with politics, telling people my political views has always terrified me for some reason, but from his website, Pete seemed to be a genuine candidate and a genuine person. At first I was skeptical, I assumed that his website embellished on his character, I was wrong. Pete is the real deal, he is a citizen just like me with concerns about our country. I am honored to be apart of his campaign and hope that you will take a minute to check out www.peteashdown.org and make an educated decision about who you vote for tomorrow.

So there you have it. My endorsement.

ASHDOWN FOR SENATE!

Where were you when we were getting high?

October 13, 2006

So… yeah I shouldn’t be allowed near a computer when I only get 2-4 hrs of sleep. (For the past 3 nights..)

Me: hmm the uniform guy just dropped off the uniforms for my technicians.. and his name is Walter. I’ve never known a Walter.. but always wanted to.
D: LOL
D: what about Walter E Disney?
Me: I don’t know him PERSONALLY
D: LOL we’ll have to remedy that
Me: I want a friend named Walter who I can call up and be like “hey wally what’s shakin?” because I mean, who’s life wouldn’t be improved by being able to say that?

Good thing I’m keeping it professional with the campaign. In my embarrassment I related the story to Sarah. To which she replied:

Sarah says: um did you know I have a body part I’ve named wally? because um. I do.
Sarah says: he can be your friend
Mallory says: um. what part is that?
Sarah says: I’m not sure what he is
Sarah says: which is why he is wally?
Sarah says: hee
Mallory says: can I CALL HIM ON THE TELEPHONE AND SAY HEY WALLY WHAT ‘S
COOKIN GOOD LOOKIN?
Sarah says: hee yes
Sarah says: and he’ll be all “hey mally! what’s shakin!”

Clearly the caffeine hasn’t kicked in yet…

As some of you know, I’m volunteering for the Pete Ashdown for Senate Campaign this year. This year’s election is just as important, (if not more important) as a presidential election. Please make sure you’re registered to vote so you can be heard. I received the following message that contains information on how to register to vote if you aren’t already registered. If you haven’t decided who you are voting for yet, you can find a list of all the candidates running at:

So… Does anyone really play name that tune with the titles of my posts? Just wondering…

Yeah… So… Evidently if you type the words “Pete Ashdown” in your blog, the campaign manager Brett will hunt you down and read your blog. Okay okay, so he doesn’t really “hunt you down” per se, but it’s always pretty shocking when somebody you’ve only known for a few weeks tells you that they stumbled upon your blog. It’s also pretty embarrassing when the post they stumbled upon talks non stop about how “awesome” everything is. I promise I actually have a brain and am participating in the campaign because of my ideological beliefs, not just because everyone there is so “awesome.” Having said that, making new friends there has been a welcome result of my volunteering. Hmm I hope I didn’t make myself look even more stupid… oh well. Whatever. And Brett? Next time you should leave a comment. :)

Anyways I am no longer house sitting for Darby… Did I tell you I was house sitting? Because I was last week, and it was pretty fun. I’m pretty bummed out that I’m back in Sandy. It was really nice living in Salt Lake. I think I am going to make more of an effort to move out by at least next fall. Stupid Jetta. (Random note: The kid sitting next to me keeps tapping his face and popping his jaw. Friggin weirdo…) Anywho, yeah I want to move out.

Last weekend was pretty AWESOME (I am really insecure about saying that now) I saw a couple shows and it was a really good time. I went to Flogging Molly and I have to say it was a lot better then I thought it would be. I think I scared the crap out of Marci though… Sorry again about that… Friday night as always was girls’ night and as always, it was the highlight of my week. I mean really, nothing gets better than action figures, plastic teeth and crown burger. Wellp… seeing how I am in class I should probably pay attention…

What happened to the blinking red lights?

September 21, 2006

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Beastie Boys, but seriously, do we still need to hear “fight for your right to party” and “girls” TEN TIMES A DAY? I MEAN HONESTLY THOSE SONGS WERE RELEASED BEFORE I COULD GO TO GRADE SCHOOL. Speaking of things that occured before I was born, did you know Orrin Hatch has been in office since before I and, most of you im sure, were even born?

I’m still doing volunteer work for the Pete Ashdown for senate campaign, and consequently I’ve become more politically aware, and its pretty freaking awesome. I go to the campaign headquarters on Wednesdays and Fridays and just do random tasks (anything from research to data entry etc) and so far its been really awesome. I’m really excited to be working for such a good cause, If you have some spare time click on Petes name or just go to www.peteashdown.org. If you don’t have spare time, you should make some because this is a really important campaign, and Pete is a great candidate.
