What ever happened to suburban rhythm?

May 22, 2007

So. I am having a hard time blogging lately. I think it’s because things are going so awesomely. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. (It’s okay to be awesome!) I went to the Living Traditions Festival last weekend and had a blast. There should be more festivals about foreign foods. Because um. Yeah. Tasty.

I’m thinking that someone somewhere should open a little shop that serves fresh churros. Because I’d go there every day. Also? Spring rolls are delicious.

Aside from the delicious delicacies, the festival had a lot of cultural activities as well. We saw various arts and crafts from different countries as well as some live performances. Have I mentioned I love festivals? I think I have once or twice…

There’s just nothing like it, I love watching different genres of people interacting. Summer festivals seem to be one of the few places where different people from different aspects of life (race, religion, political beliefs, sexuality, etc) join together and seem to forget about the woes of the world.

Anyway, I guess that’s all I have to say about that. You should go to more festivals though. Especially the Arts Festival. Because I will be volunteering. And running the 5K.

Have a good’un.

Summer dies and swells rise, The sun goes down in my eyes

Where is My Mind?

September 8, 2006

It’s official, I am a bigoted hight-est. Just ask Sarah. I’m actually writing this post from my art history course, No I haven’t finally purchased a laptop, this message has been transcribed from my notebook.. ANYWAYS how was your Labor day weekend? Mine was nothing short of fantastic.

Friday night Marci bo Barci and I went to our place and then afterwards decided to go to the off Broadway theatre for some improv comedy. It was really fun; you should try if you’ve never been. The crowd there was really small, but I think that just added to how fun it was. The actors actually did a skit that took place at the ICEE Company, so that was pretty funny. After the club, we met up with Sarah for Chai at the Coffee Break. It’s a pretty cute coffee shop, and they have pretty good chai. We met some new friends, and Sarah may have met the love of her life, but we’re not sure yet. (yeah yeah you hate me the size of a grain of rice…)

Saturday was also an awesome day, I spent the entire day with people who I adore. Saturday morning I went to the farmers market with Jessie and her roommate, an it was really fun. I really love the farmers market, they always have the coolest stuff, and you can get full on free samples J. After the market, I went home to a family get together with my dad’s side of the family. It was really awesome. I don’t think I’ve sat down and really talked with them since my dad passed away, so seeing them definitely brought back some awesome memories. Its crazy how fast time flies. I think we are going to try and get together more often, and that excites me. Saturday night I went to dinner with Sarah and saw Talladega nights. Hee I love Will Ferrell. After the movie, we went back to my house and just watched some tv, all in all, Saturday was awesome.

THEN ON SUNDAY Mom, Mikey and I went to the Mountain Men Rendezvous at Fort Bridger. It was really fun. My dad used to always take us to the rendezvous when I little, so it was sort of a visit to the past again, but like Saturday, it was a welcome one. I forgot how cool that place is. It was fun seeing people dressed up like it was the early 1800s. I am so happy to be living now instead of 100-200 years ago.

I spent Monday at home and with the girls shopping, it was fun. I told you it was a fantastic weekend. Looks like this weekend should also be pretty awesome, I’m going to the state fair, and to Greek-fest. I’m excited. Things in my life are insane right now, but I love every second of it. This week I signed up to volunteer for the Pete Ashdown Campaign and I am really excited about it. I will be doing office work for them and they talked to me about being one of their photographers, which blows my mind. I think this will be an awesome experience and I can’t wait. Anyways, I have art history to read about (remember the 5 things I want to accomplish this semester? Yeah I’m all over it.)
Have a good’un.

Eastside love is living on the West End

August 21, 2006

So, the semester starts in two friggin days. TWO DAYS and only one of my teachers has gotten around to disclosing what books they will be using, guess I won’t be getting a half.com discount anytime soon. What. Ever. I don’t have anything in particular to write about… As the summer comes to an end, I find myself really sad to go back to school, because I know come May, I’ll be sad that its summer, Its a vicious cycle you see. Mostly I’m not looking forward to the financial crunch that usually accompanies photography classes… But hopefully with my raise and added hours, it won’t be too bad. I’m still selling my Jetta if anyone’s interested. ANYWAYS…

Mikey and I went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers last week, and Damn, that was a really good show. I don’t think their music really showcases their talent, but their live shows definitely do. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone play the way they do, it was really cool, and if you get the chance to see them, you won’t be disappointed, I promise. Along with the great music, the crowd was really eclectic, which is always a lot of fun. In particular, the man in front of us really loved the peppers. He knew all the songs, and made up his own special dances for each song, which at the end of each, he would passionately throw up the “hang loose” sign into the air, to remind the peppers that they are in fact, from California. Anyways, they’re great live, I’d put them in the top 10, if not top 5 best played shows I’ve ever seen. I should make a list like that.. It’d be fun.

Friday night, after enjoying a fun picnic in the park with Jessie, Sarah, Marci , and I went to a midnight movie and then to breakfast (Brefuss) at 3 AM. It was an insane night, that re-affirmed my belief that the summer list is the best idea I have ever had. During our outing, we met a crazy man who claimed he was from Scotland, Orange county, Australia, AND Hawaii. He was also autistic, artistic, and enjoyed drinking “Donny Osmonds.” (and this all happened, BEFORE we watched goonies) once the movie started up, he ran away somewhere, and we never saw him again. Perhaps he went surfing with his black dogs. After the movie, we went to Village Inn and enjoyed some 3:00 AM breakfast. There we saw an old customer at the UPS Store, and made a new friend. We knew that we’d be friends the moment he brought Sarah 4 Diet cokes, all at the same time. Truly, a match made in heaven.

No one’s gonna take me alive

August 16, 2006

SCHOOL STARTS ONE WEEK FROM TODAY. So desperately did I want last semester to never end, now that same desperation wants the semester to never start. So before I get too involved with this blog, let me warn you, I have a head cold, and its sort of messing up my ability to make clear and concise sentences. Words are my enemy today. So sorry if nothing on this particular post makes sense. I’d also like to apologize for having not posted for almost a month. I’ve been suprisingly busy, trying to finish up the summer list, which it looks like I wont be doing. I’ve also been in the bitchiest mood of all time due to some financial issues that we won’t go into, because yeah its boring. But don’t worry, I’m still single and living at home.

ANYWAYS… I’ve done a lot of really fun things since I last posted. This past weekend was particularly fun. A bunch of us attempted to watch all six Star Wars films, and it was really fun. We only made it through 4, but do you realize that’s over 12 hours of George Lucas dialogue? Damn. We are still deciding when to watch the last two. The night was particularly fun because we all brought themed foods. (I brought wookie cookies) after watching 2 movies, we all slept over at Lisa’s which made me feel like I was 13 again. Jessie, Marci and I got to sleep in the living room, where we told each other ghost stories and made shadow puppets. You know you wish you were there. It was quite possibly the best night of my summer. IF NOT MY LIFE.

Aside from intergalactic happenings, Mikey and I went to the Spiral Jetty a few weeks ago, and that was also really fun. I didn’t realize how far away it actually is, its about 75 miles away and its an adventure getting there. We had to drive on dirt roads, and then do a little bit of four wheeling, which ultimately resulted in mikey needed to replace all 4 brakes.. The Jetty itself is really beautiful, and I was proud of us for being able to find it and then actually hike down the rocky hill to get to it.

Well Kiddies, I think I am going to end this post, but I will try to post more often.

Who are you to wave your finger?

May 11, 2006

First of all, TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been meaning to say that for a while now.. The new CD is SO GOOD, and I love Maynard James Keenan. Anyways.. I have no real reason to post, and have no idea what to even write about today, but feel that I need to post because I haven’t done so in awhile and now that I’m out of school I’m out of excuses. So how have you been? Things in my life have been pretty peachy keen if I do say so myself. I have been up to a lot of different things and sincerely enjoying life these past few weeks. I’ve been working on THE LIST and its really made my summer more enjoyable. This past weekend was especially fun. I went to the Living Traditions festival with some girlfriends and it was really nice. Nothing in particular stands out as to why I enjoyed myself so much, I think I was mostly excited just to be out and about. In case you don’t know the living traditions festival is a festival that celebrates different cultures and ethnicities. It mainly consists of about 20 booths offering different foods from around the world. In a word, Tasty. hmm what else has occurred? ooh yesterday I saw X-3. That was pretty friggin sweet. Somehow my mom scored some advanced screening tickets, the only downside was I had to wait in line for like 3 or so hours, but I’ve been reading Anna Karenina so it kept me pretty busy. I’ve actually had a really hard time putting it down. I think Tolstoy may have been thinking about me when writing the character “Levin” but probably not. Well kiddies, I’d better go, but have a good’un!

Everywhere I go, Damn there I am

May 8, 2006

Well.. That was a long week. Ugh I always hate the first week of summer. I know its weird, but I’m weird like that. I always get bored and lonely because I’m not used to being alone for such extended periods of time, and I miss my friends from school. Oh well week two shall be better. I’ve devised a super list and even created another blog in honor of it. (see side links) This week I am starting up my new exercising plan and I’m pretty excited about it. That’s one thing I love about not being in school, its so much easier sticking to a program when you don’t have classes and homework eating up all your time. Anyways this last week, although long, was really fun. I did a ton of stuff, including going to Albertos with my good buddy Scotty 2 Hotty, watching some movies and going to a club with The girls from Twolooseteeth, Marci and Jessie, and I finally got around to putting my car up for sale. (if you know anyone who wants to buy a 2005 Jetta lemme know!) I also picked up my portfolio for my drawing class, and guess what? I got a B. I know, a B isn’t the best grade in the world, but I was excited, I was sort of worried that I wasn’t going to pass… So when I saw the grade, I was really happy about it. Well kiddies, this was sort of a pointless blog, but oh well.. I’d better go to bed. But check out the Summer list and tell me if you have any other ideas!
Have a good’un!

Look how close I’ve come.. I’m far away

April 27, 2006

Well Pre-art is officially over, and I have to say I feel pretty good about it. Today while finishing up my last drawing I realized that I have actually somewhat improved in the subject (that’s not to say that I’m good, I’m just slightly better) and I have to say, I will sincerely miss that class. I’m not soo worried about losing friends anymore though. I’ve been reassured by some friends, and also decided to apply my mantra to the issue. (Whatever happens, happens) It is a bummer though that I wont be able to see all my friends 2-4 times a week, but I guess I should just be happy that I had the experience right? Of course I am.
